Switching display between external and eternal monitor?

I have a laptop with few functions but I have a port for external monitor. I plugged it in and, of course, nothing happened. How can I switch the view?

Take a look into your notebook manual or experiment with Fn-Key.

So I don't need any programs or anything? I'll check it out right away.

You may and you may not.  I just hit Fn + F7 or something similar and it switches.  I know people that have laptops and they need drivers to display to external monitors.  What laptop do you have?

Re: Switching display between external and eternal monitor?

I have an acer Aspire 3003 (lmi?). I found that my screen blackens when I do Fn+F6 so I'd guess it's that button. I'll try it when I have the monitor available again. However, can't I have both monitors running at the same time?

Hmm. Didn't work. Do I need drivers for my card or my monitor?

Re: Switching display between external and eternal monitor?

I am using a Acer TravelMate 521TE (yap.. kinda old), and the key to switch the video output is Fn + Fn5. Fn + F6 seems to be a LCD switch off.

I dont need to install any extra driver.. give it a try loh..

Re: Switching display between external and eternal monitor?

I have no idea what Fn+Fn5 means. Is that an Fn+F5? If so, do I need the screen connected to actually notice any difference (IE to be able to tell if it works).

[edit]
With that said I meant that I've tried it without the screen connected and without success.

I think you should have another screen connected
I have an Acer Aspire 1694wlmi and I confirm that the key is Fn+F5

But I haven't gotten my TV-out to work yet!

I don't have tv-out on my.  I've been thinking, however, that shouldn't it be possible to have a transformer from pc-out or the regular "monitor" to connect it to the tv?

Re: Switching display between external and eternal monitor?

that kind of device is around NT$1500-2500 in Taiwan, it's like 40 to 65 euros - and I am using one now.

The one I am using -

And, yap. it should be Fn + F5
