Hadoop: Connection Refused to localhost

I am trying to learn how to used Hadoop, but it seems I am not able to set it up correctly. Following the wiki

I did everything until the part where it says to browse the web interface for the NameNode and the JobTracker. However, when I try to connect to
http://localhost:50070/
or
http://localhost:50030/
the connection fails with an ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error.

I am not sure what is the reason for the error. I was hoping some fellow archlinux user would be able to help me with my issue!
