Sudo is usally the easiest route.
From the readme:
* Jacman doesn't prompt you to sign in as root like many GUI apps do. If you
try and do something that you don't have permission for, expect an error
telling you so!
So it's up to you to make sure you're in a state where you can run pacman, whether that be sudo, su -, or whatever else you may use.
