I installed Arch on a ThinkPad T450 and the special keys at the top row such as
volume and brightness controls don't do anything. I suppose this is the
expected behaviour. If so, what do I have to do in order for them to work?
The keys are detected properly and I can see them in xev.
I have two methods in mind that I've seen while looking for solutions:
1) bind each key to a command using something like xbindkeys, or
2) set an action to be triggered by an ACPI event using acpid.
I would like the keys to also work in the console (outside of X), so I think
this rules out the first method. However for power management I've chosen to go
the systemd route and not install acpid.
What other methods are there? What is the usual way to do this?

Thank you. I ended up using acpid.
