Mangler is dead

Mangler is a third-party unofficial Ventrilo client for Linux.

Does anyone have any interest in taking over this project? The original developers don't care about it anymore. But then, nor do the developers of Ventrilo, apparently -- they haven't had an update since 2008. They do maintain their website though, at least...

There is a mirror of the last source tarball available on the Debian servers here:

http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/ … rig.tar.gz

If someone could either rehost that source file somewhere, or edit the PKGBUILD to use the Debian mirror, that'd be great. I'm not sure how to contact the maintainer of the Arch package.

EDIT: Github mirror (Android source too)

Re: Mangler is dead

Why not use Mumble? It's superior and open source, has packages for many distros and is alive and well. Even TeamSpeak has a package in [community] why hold on to a dead project?

Re: Mangler is dead

Mumble is better than Ventrilo by far, but sometimes a group of people you want to play a game with only use Ventrilo. And often you can't convince them to switch, and so we have the reason for Mangler. Ventrilo isn't as dominant as it once was, but (despite its lack of updates) it's still a major player and we should have a way of dealing with it. Like how Skype is definitely not the best for voice or video calls -- I use it because of its install base.

Well, that is sad news. Thanks for letting us know.
