[NVIDIA] Xorg takes 100% CPU and display + keyboard frozen after wake

Hello,

I have an issue that I cannot seem to figure out on my own. I thought I'd reach out to others to see if someone can help me figure this out for myself.  I'm not necessarily looking for a solution (though I'll take it if you have it). I'm looking for some suggestions on how to troubleshoot/debug the issue for myself.

Anyways, the issue is that when I wake my system from suspend, I intermittently suffer from my display and keyboard freezing. I can still ssh into my system. When I do and I run top, I see that one of my CPU cores are at 100% and that core is being eaten by Xorg. I cannot kill xorg (not even with kill -9). I can shutdown, but it takes a while because things have to timeout first.

Some details:
Command: sudo systemctl suspend
CPU: Intel 6700K overclocked to 4.7ghz
GPU: NVIDIA 980ti
GPU Driver: NVIDIA-Beta from the AUR
I have not seen this issue during a normal boot/reboot or during normal use.

So far, I've tried:
1) looking up to see if anyone has had similar issues, and while I've found some, I've never found any solutions or pointers on how to find my issue.
2) I've looked at the relevant logs and tried search for some of the errors/warnings I saw.
2)I actually started with the Nvidia drivers from the extra repo and I attempted to switch to Nouveau, but Nouveau doesn't seem ready to support the 980ti yet (or I didn't set something up correctly, though I followed the wiki)
3)I switched to the Nvidia-beta drivers from the AUR and things seemed better for a couple days, but then the problem started again.
4) I formatted my drive and reinstalled Arch fresh. This also made things seem ok for a couple days, but again, the problem is occurring.

Here is a pastebin to the relevant journalctl logs (journalctl -S 18:00 -U 18:30):

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

A lot of gnome-session errors, have you attempted to reproduce the problem with a different environment/window manager? Also be aware that nvidia-beta and the package from the repos are the same version currently, so there isn't much reason to use the beta package and it has some additional caveats you have to be aware of (you have to remember to rebuild it on kernel updates yourself e.g.)

I have not attempted to reproduce this on another environment yet. That is on the ToDo list, I'm just looking into what environment I want to use. I'll do that next.

As for the beta being the same version as the repo, that is good information. I guess I didn't look hard enough at the actual driver version in the AUR compared to the package repo.

I would still like to work out the issue with gnome, if possible. So any ideas on that front would appreciated. That being said, I'll get on with trying a new environment ASAP to see if I can reproduce the issue there. If nothing else, that might help narrow the scope of the problem.

I have exactly the same issue with Ubuntu 16.04 (with Unity) + 2x GTX 970 + overclocked 4790K CPU.

Xorg with 100% CPU, can't be killed with kill command.
nvidia-smi slowly responds and shows the following:

Have you found any way to debug it further or fix it?

@buriy, we don't support other distributions. Please ask your question through one of the ubuntu support channels.

@OP, I'll go ahead and close this thread since there has been no relevant activity on this thread for a while. Please contact the moderation team if you need it reopened.

As suggested by buriy, those affected by this bug can follow up on nvidia forums at https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi … dia-370-/5
