I have found that I _can_ get inputs received by running `sudo evtest /dev/input/event9`, and it will correctly determine where my trackpad is being touched etc; so I believe there's some issue in which synaptics has lost the ability to track it.
Please let me know any information you would find useful, and of any suggestions you have to help me fix this!
Edit: fixed incorrect input event, highlighted by ewaller.

Did you reboot between any of those posts? event 11 shows up as a video bus under /proc/bus/input/devices. You assert that event 11 provides touch data (supported by your xinput dump)
Also, your Xorg log dies before it ever gets around to initializing the input devices.
What is the output of find /etc/X11 ?

Sorry ewaller. It should have been _event 9_ that is the correct touch data device.
I'm unsure why my log seems to die before initialising the input; I am starting a session via `startx`, shall I grab a copy of the output from that, and attach it to this post?
`find /etc/X11`:
/etc/X11
/etc/X11/xinit
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/40-libcanberra-gtk-module.sh
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/xft-settings.sh

Please. I want to see how, what and why Xorg is mapping the event files to drivers.

Looks like I'd added another line in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf that ignored touchscreen events, and as the the touchpad is now detected as one, it was being ignored.
Thanks very much for the help, I really appreciate it.
