AUR package overriden by community

Hi Archers,

I'm maintaining debootstrap package in AUR for the last 4 years and all of a sudden, three days ago a different package of the same name and similar contents appears in community repository. I always thought the common procedure is that TU adopts the package from AUR and promotes it to community... I'd imagine I'd be at least notified if that happened.

What actually happened is that I had no idea of this and found out while trying to upgrade the package in AUR, because it became blacklisted and my push was rejected by the server-side hook. Does this mean I'm all of a sudden violating the rules? The AUR wiki page specifically says "If any version of it exists, do not submit the package." Should I request my AUR package to be deleted? Or is that the responsibility of the TU who created the new one in community repository?

Yes, that's a bit of a cockup on Felix's part. Ideally, he should've checked whether there was an existing package, and let you know that he was moving it to Community. The package on the AUR should be removed, but if you have any suggestions about the maintenance of the package, then you might want to sent Felix a polite email about it first. Otherwise, file a deletion request.

Re: AUR package overriden by community

Thanks for kind response.

Felix's PKGBUILD is actually better than the one I maintain (possibly because I never really upgraded it in all those years :-) ). It seems to correctly address all the issues I and other users discovered in past, so there is no real reason to keep the package in AUR. I will file deletion request as you suggested.

Re: AUR package overriden by community

Sorry for that!

I actually opened the AUR page (it's still in my Firefox tab queue) and wanted to leave a message there, but somehow forgot to actually do it...

EDIT: debootstrap now removed from AUR. Please let me know if you have any suggestions smile

I'd like to add, that the best place for such questions are the AUR mailing list and the email inbox of whatever TU did something you disagree with. Most of them are friendly folks most of the time, if you ask in a friendly manner.
