X.org freezes from time to time (xf86-video-ati/radeon issues)

Sometimes, X.org completely locks up (all inputs like keyboard, mouse etc. don't do anything). Then, the screen flashes black for a while and appears again with no apparent changes. A few times X.org came back after some time passed, in general the time to come back is either very long or the screen is locked up for good (not sure which one). Before this happens, the whole computer slows down to a crawl. Even the TTYs take a while to show the login/password input or to start the shell.
The only way to regain access is to use the SysRq kernel code to take away keyboard from X, change to a different terminal then restart the display manager. I used this to dump a dmesg.

You can view the whole dmesg output here. Radeon driver issues start at 20302.640030 (you can grep/Ctrl+F for it).
Here you can access only the relevant part of dmesg.
Here is another dmesg output (this time without out of memory)
LSPCI: Full output (01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV710 [Radeon HD 4550])
All installed packages (+ versions): Here
Linux: 4.5.1-1
Mesa: 11.2.1-1
X.org: 1.18.3-1
Xf86-video-ati: 1:7.7.0-1
