ASUS UX303U - Gnome not registering brightness function keys

Hello

I have trouble getting my laptop to resoind correctly to the brightness function keys.

By default the planemode (fn + f2), brightness up (fn + f5) and brightness down (fn + f6) function keys doesn't work (as stated in the UX303L wiki page), I can however change the brightness using the gnome brightness slider

I've tried testing with showkey, and it doesn't respond to those keypresses.

The wiki suggests adding "acpi_osi=" to the boot options.

This allows the keys to be registered by showkey, but the brightness still doens't change, and now the gnome brightness slider doesn't work.

I have tried Mate and xfce aswell. Non of them responds to the brightness keys

I hope any of you can help

It's a linux kernel bug on recent Asus laptops, it has been reported several times, like this: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98931
