Lenovo T450s Fan turns often on

Hello,

i have a Problem with my Lenovo T450s. The Fan in the Notebook turns on very often. Its enough to open a new tab in my webbrowser and the fan starts spinning.
I use thinkfan to get a little control over the fan but it didn't solve the problem.
Did someone who uses this Notebook had the same problem?

lm_sensors tells me that the temperature of the cpu is around 40°. If i start a new application or open a new tab it increases to around 60°-70° for around 5-10 secounds. In that time the fan starts spinning. Sometimes it spins with around 4000-5000 rpm.

Thanks

raeste

Re: Lenovo T450s Fan turns often on

Well, considering your temperature it makes sense for the fan to turn on and keeping that down manually with thinkfan seems like a bad idea in this case. I do have a T450S running Arch as well and don't face these problems. Maybe you could try using TLP as this is what I use for power management. Basic settings, nothing changed as far as I remember.

Re: Lenovo T450s Fan turns often on

I have the T450s with the Nvidia Graphiccard.
I have the TLP Package installed and running with the default settings.
And your T450s don't turn on the fan if you start an application or open a new tab?

Maybe a BIOS update could help? Currently i'm on Version 1.19. I try to update to 1.20

What's the current temperature of your cpu?

Nope, the fan of mine is barely hearable in all situations (besides from clear high load situations of course). Mine does not have a dedicated NV graphics card though.

The Problem is also that the cpu temp is still around 39°-47° which i found is a little bit high for normal webbrowsing. That the fan starts when i open for example Netbeans or Android Studio is ok but if i only browse the web is a little bit odd

Re: Lenovo T450s Fan turns often on

Any updates on that?
I'm facing the same issue, i.e. fan is turning on very often (~3800 rpm) as soon as temps are >48°C. This happens especially when playing youtube videos or opening new tabs in firefox or opera.
I also have the t450s version with the dedicated GPU. My idle temperature is around 45°C which I find a little too high.
Couldn't find anything useful on the web. Would be great if anyone could give some hints smile.
