Hi there,
I am running Xfce with xscreensaver and power management configured the following:
- Screensaver is set to blank screen only, locks screen after 10 minutes
- Under Screensaver/Advanced Power management is enabled, set to 120/120/240 respectively and Quick power-off in blank mode only is enabled
Xfce's power manager is configured the following on the Display tab:
- Handle display power management is enabled with never/never/20 minutes respectively
My first question is aren't they handling similar things? Which setting has precedence over the other?
But my main issue is if I leave my PC on for the night, then the next morning I can't get to the Xscreensaver's login prompt because the screen stays in power saving mode. I am able to access the terminal though, so the PC is definitely awake.
Could someone more familiar with X and Xfce lend me a hand?
Please let me know what other information you might need.
Kind regards,
Mate

Hi there,
I've disabled all power management features and the issues is still happening. Might it be related to the video driver? I have an integrated Intel card, probably HD 3000, using the i915 kernel driver.

Can you post journalctl logs from when this happens. There could be some clue..
I'm not sure if screen blanking is causing the issue, but you could try disabling it completely: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Di … _Signaling
You could also try if disabling XScreensaver completely would change anything.

Interesting additional information which might indicate that it is not related to the screen's power management.
During the issue if I fire up a VNC server for my active X11 session (x0vncserver -display :0 -passwordfile ~/.vnc/passwd) I only get a blank screen through VNC, no password prompt from the screensaver.
The issue might be with XScreensaver itself. With XFCE what screensaver should I use?
