[SOLVED] Segmentation fault starting x, probably related to Intel gfx

I am using a Lenovo X1 Carbon 1st gen. When I try to start X most of the time I get a segfault:

I can usually start it after a number of retries, but sometimes I have to retry 20 times or more before I can finally start X.

If I turn off hardware acceleration with the "NoAccel" option then X doesn't crash, but my desktop becomes practically unusable because of rendering artifacts and terribly slow performance.

Re: [SOLVED] Segmentation fault starting x, probably related to Intel gfx

Try setting the acceleration method to 'uxa'. I've been having the same problem, and so far this has stopped the OsLookupColor crashes.

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

The wiki also has other suggestions - such as the i915.semaphores=1 boot parameter.

Great! That seems to solve it. I have been able to start X twice without issue. Thanks a lot!
