cannot boot under linux-4.5-1-x86_64 - failed to mount filesystems

Hi, I noticed some others here having issues with linux-4.5 but none about filesystems like I am having so I wanted to post. I am able to fix these issues and boot if I downgrade to linux 4.4, so there is no hardware issue. My question is: is there a way for me to upgrade to linux-4.5? Is the problem with my system? Or should I just wait for a later version of the software?

I want to share the complete dmesg output, but I do not have access to my hard drive (the whole problem). I took some pictures and produced some partial output below. Please let me know if there is a way I can capture more of this info. I'm sorry it is only partial.

starting version 229
/dev/sda2: clean, 354255/41934304 files, ... blocks

  ...
[  11.214722] ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
[  11.214722] ata1.00: error: { ABRT }
  ...
[ *    ] (1 of 3) A start job is running for dev-sda1.device (20s / 1min 30s) [27.369387] ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno=-2)
  ...
[  36.633942] EXT4-fs error (device sda2): __ext4_get_inode_loc:4130: inode #2627546: block 10486173: comm systemd-udevd: unable to read itable block
  ...
[FAILED] Failed to start File System Check on /dev/sda1
[FAILED] Failed to mount /boot
  ...

At this point the output to console just repeats messages like these:

ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x6000000f SErr 0x0 action 0x6
ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
ata1.00: error: { ABRT }

I want to note also that /dev/sda1 is my /boot partition. But all disk partitions produce output similar to what I have transcribed above. Is there a way to interrupt the process at the end so I can get to a console? I'm guessing not since it seems like the terminal software is not being read from the hard drive.
