Hello to the Arch community. I gather this is the place to introduce oneself. So here goes. A couple of years ago, I installed Xubuntu as a dual boot alongside XP on my Toshiba Satellite P100. Last December, that machine began to fail so I bought a used HP and set up a dual boot Xubuntu/Mint system on it. As an experiment, I also installed Arch on a USB and when that went ok, l decided to buy another used laptop, a Lenovo ThinkPad T510, to experiment further with Arch.

I've now managed to get Arch going reasonably well on it but now I'm stuck on a few things which I'll ask about on a different thread if I need to. I'm doing Arch mostly as an exercise and, since I have laptop dedicated to this purpose, I'm looking forward to experimenting without much anxiety since I won't keep any data on the machine until I feel confident that I have a good grasp of Arch...which may not be for many years.

Welcome.

Oh, come on. It's like you're going to accidendally delete everything with a single line of code. (Apparently it was just a hoax.)

Hola, estoy tratando de descubrir este nuevo sistema operativo que me llama mucho la atención, siento la necesidad de convertirlo en mi sistema operativo por defecto y sacarle todo el jugo posible. Me encantaría conocer mas gente que lo use, para poder intercambiar conocimientos,  y así hacer mucho mas rápido mi transición.
Espero encontrar gente agradable y para cualquier cosa cuenten conmigo, estoy a su disposición.

Hello Arch Linux!
After finally getting arch installed, along with a working DE, here I am,
Actually, that is not entirely true. I had it installed twice already, but didnt like the look of XFCE, so I tried to do a Cinnamon DE.
That wound up being borked, so for the time being, I'm back on XFCE. I dabbled in linux, back in the Mandrake/Mandriva days, but couldn't get
gaming to work out, so I went back to Windoze.
Until this year . I have been successfully running Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon on my desktop as well as a mini(Acer Aspire One,D255).
My Dell laptop was needing a reload of windoze, and not liking the LM philosophy of blindly updating things in the Update Manager, thought I would give arch a try.
All is well with the Dell . I have to say, I was proud, the first time I configured and compiled my own kernel(back in 2002, I believe).
But the sense of pride in installing Arch from scratch, and building my own version of Arch, is astonishing!
I look forward to the help I can receive(as well as give)to the community.

@czam,

Welcome to Arch Linux forums. Please note that Antergos is *not* Arch. It is a derivative and if you need support for Antergos, you will have to ask on their forums.

Hi all,

Javis from the states here. I decided to take the plunge and use Arch Linux moving forward after using Ubuntu for the last 5 or 6 years. I've installed Gentoo Linux a couple of times from 'scratch' out of curiosity, but the result was unusable at best as a daily driver. Didn't really have the drive to figure out some of the functionality that was missing here and there (I was still a bit wet behind the ears) compared to Ubuntu.

However, one thing I did notice (maybe 2 years ago?) was that the most useful documentation always came to me by way of the Arch wiki even though I was dabbling in Gentoo so that left an impression.

Just moved from Netrunner (Kubuntu). I woke up one day and there was only memtest86+ — i didn't paying attention during upgrade.
Time for change. Actually it happen few weeks ago and i already learnt a lot. I'm doing this with no rush… just read, read, read.
Arch is the way. And now i have awesome awesome window manager. Happy.

I have seen countless comments over the past year praising the Arch Wiki. If there is better linux documentation on the web, I haven't found it.

Hi everybody,

I just landed here. I'm using ApricityOS as it's an easy aproximation to Arch and the only thing I'm still wondering is why I didn't do it before. I was kinda stucked with Ubuntu and derivatives (Mint, Elementary, ...) cause .deb packages and ppa are just easy and really extended. That was before knowing Arch and AUR and I won't come back to them, Arch and rolling releases are just perfect and fit what I need.

Welcome, but remember that if you have support issues, this is not the forums to ask on, as we only support true Arch.

Hello! I just joined here. I have a rather unorthodox setup that makes installing arch (or any other distro) rather difficult, and I am hoping to recieve some assistance here. A tl;dr of why I'm going with arch is as follows: I was torn between ubuntu and mint so I chose arch.

I haven't installed it yet, but I am familiar with other linuxes and plan to install arch as soon as I can.

I was torn between ubuntu and mint so I chose arch.

Do other decisions in your life reflect that kind of thinking? Like, "I can't decide if I want to date Pat or Chris, so I'll date Stef".

Of course not. There were also other factors drawing me towards arch that made it preferable over both ubuntu and mint.

Hi, I'm a Swiss web developer (Python mostly), living in Bogotá, Colombia. Some months ago, I decided to move away from OS X after about ten years and go with a Dell XPS 13, Archlinux and Awesome WM.  It's a fun, intresting and sometime bumpy journey so far because this is my first serious desktop linux installation ever. But thankfully the Arch Wiki provides some of the best system/software documentation I've seen in my career.

Hope I'll be able to contribute back.

Long time lurker, finally registered with the forum, so I'll say hello.

Been using Arch for my work computer for a few months now. Still have to use a Windows VM to make GoToMeeting calls, but the rest of my workflow is in Arch now.

Using Cinnamon atm, but things change (really itching to use a twm)

After several years on various other distros on secondary systems I took the leap and went for an Arch install on my daily driver. Loving it so far!
