[SOLVED] browser with grouping tabs

Hi,
currently using Firefox with many extensions, but still missing some features.
Ideally, I would like to group tabs (like workspaces and windows). I can use extensions Tab Group and Tab Groups, but there are some problems. Firstly, Firefox with more than 20 tabs needs to much memory.
I don't need all of them open, just prepared unloaded, so that I have saved them for later use. I have tab mix plus for not loading tabs, but it is still memory and, what is worse, CPU demanding.
I have tried stash tabs with Tab Group Button, but after restart lost all of the tabs. Furthermore, this solution is not really handy.

Could you recommend me any alternative? I am not against anything (VIMperator, other browser...).
Also, how you exit the browser? I kill all apps with systemctl poweroff, but then there's the about:session-store page.

Thanks,
knezi

Have you tried the Vivaldi browser? It is the spiritual successor of Opera 12.X, aimed at power users and has tab grouping.

Re: [SOLVED] browser with grouping tabs

I've read  it is laggy, but I will give it a try.
Maybe I was rather asking for inspiration. What do you use? What methods do you use to effectively browse and remember sites?

I may be missing something but what about bookmarks? You can group them nicely, no need to worry they'll disappear on their own etc.

Well, I have never used bookmarks. Is there any way to move URL from tab to bookmark and vice versa?
I mean to have the possibility to stash the tab and then recovery. I would have to move the tab into bookmarks, close the tab. Then open bookmark and delete it.
I am searching for some workflow which allows me to work with many websites and it is CPU and RAM friendly, because I am working with just couple of websites at the time.

Re: [SOLVED] browser with grouping tabs

Firefox does have an option "Bookmark All Tabs" that allows you to store all open tabs in a new bookmark folder.

You also can tell firefox to open all bookmarks in  any bookmark  folder.
(i follow approx 18 webcomics, have all of them in 1 bookmark group)

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Kids these days ;P
When I was young, we didn't need no stinkin' tabs! Bookmarks was all we had.

We used to have to get out of the lake at three o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, go to work at the mill every day.

That's how you create a bookmark manually.
You can open a saved bookmark (it's just a url saved in a sqlite database + some metadata), a set of bookmarks, all bookmarks with a certain keyword etc.
You don't have to open a url to remove it from bookmarks' list, but it's OK, if you want to be sure you're deleting the correct one.

Check how much memory your extensions are using, some of them can be pretty memory-hungry.

Re: [SOLVED] browser with grouping tabs

I am using the "Max Loaded Tabs" addon in my firefox profile since I like colleting tabs. That unloads old tabs, but keeps them in the tab bar.
Edit: I guess I'll have to change my behaviour, though. Currently I am at ~2GB memory with 15 loaded tabs out of 120.
You might want to try OneTab, but I think it has no groups.

Re: [SOLVED] browser with grouping tabs

@archivist
It consume huuge amount of memory, that's one reason why I am searching for an alternative. Bookmarks are intended for regular visiting, I need to save page and delete it after next view.
@progandy
Thanks! OneTab works great! It also have groups, but they have to be in one tab. Only thing I am missing  is the possibility  to configure shortcuts.
With Max Loaded Tabs, did you think extension called Auto unload tab?

It is a similar addon created by the same author with reduced functionality.

Re: [SOLVED] browser with grouping tabs

Ok. Thanks for info.
OneTab seems dead, because the author does not response to feedback of anyone and last update was in 2014, but still, it is the best alternative I have seen.
