graphics horizontally repeating through the whole screen at random PIC

I'm having what I think is a driver issue in arch linux with gnome with either my integrated intel graphics or maybe its the wacom driver or maybe it's something else.

I'm sure its probably just something stupid like I need to write or edit a conf file but I'm not sure what I need to google cause I don't know what the actual problem is. I don't think I'm getting tearing but that's not something I've had issues with so maybe it is. It seems like it'd be easy to fix tearing if that's the problem and the problem isn't all the time and it doesn't happen at specific times or when I do specific things, it just sort or randomly happens.... I'd try the tearing fixes but since I'm not sure that's the issue I don't want to make more problems attempting to fix something when I don't know what the issue is

I have a core i5 laptop(an HP Elitebook 2740p) with intel integrated graphics, shows up as intel ironlake graphics and is using the i915 driver, the screen/monitor is a wacom touch screen that also has a pen with eraser.

Occasionally when I move my mouse my screen glitches and the graphics like overlay repeatedly horizontally. it's really weird ill move my mouse and then at random all I'll see is my top bar over and over, it'll fill my whole screen... I think the weirdest part is that if I tap the screen to drop a menu on the top bar the glitch will go away and everything is once again fine for a while.

So I'm not sure if its a touchscreen issue, a graphics driver issue, or something else all together, so if anyone has an idea of what is wrong I'd be grateful to have something new to put into google...

it almost seems like tearing but the pics of tearing I've seen are different than what I'm seeing, most of those are just a single horizontal line, not a piece of the screen repeating down the whole monitor.

Re: graphics horizontally repeating through the whole screen at random PIC

I took some pics of the problem in action, the first two links are what I was trying to describe and the second two are me taping the touch screen and everything going back to normal, I had just recently booted and I wasn't even running anything aside from gnome, this happens with all extension disabled so I doubt that is an issue

I'm weary of trying to fix something when I don't know what I'm trying to fix or I'd start messing around with settings and confs, I just don't wanna break anything or make things worse

I am still most definitely still having the same problem even after removing synaptic and installing libinput. If anyone has any info that might help me fix the graphics glitches or even just info on how to properly diagnose what is going on I could still use some help.

I ended up having to do a complete reinstall, this time I never installed the synaptic driver and I haven't had the weird graphics issue this time around. There were other things I did differently also so I don't know for sure that the synaptic drive was the culprit but it sure seems like it.
