systemd-boot hangs if I press any key

Hi fellows,

I've recently installed Arch over my laptop (EFI but Secure Boot disabled).
I installed systemd-boot as boot manager.

While at the initial times, systemd-boot worked fine, today I've noticed that if I press any key (e.g. I want to choose the second entry, so I press the down arrow...) systemd-boot hangs.
Laptop is freezed, e.g. caps-lock led doesn't switch, and the only way to overrun this issue is to hard reboot with the power button.

How can I solve this issue?

thank you for any advice

EDIT: I've already updated the systemd-boot installation using `sudo bootctl update`

Try manually updating the systemd-boot .efi loader:

# bootctl update

Already done

Oh sorry, I must have missed that in your OP big_smile

What happens if you press "t" or "T" (or any of the other boot menu keys) when the menu screen shows?

Re: systemd-boot hangs if I press any key

corrected the OP.

OK, follow me on this weird path:

I rebooted and then I pressed `t` key, getting:

Menu disabled. Hold down key at bootup to show menu.

but systemd-boot hanged as well.
So, I rebooted and that time menu did not appear and Arch loaded normally.
Another reboot, this time keep `t` key down had the effect to show the menu again (with the timeout increased... fault to the key `t` repeated...).
The next reboot, when the menu appeared I pressed down `T` key in order to decrease the timeout time BUT as the problem I reported above, after the first step (from 50 seconds to 49), systemd-boot freezes!

After some attempts, I've discovered that if I keep pressed a key (I tried with `t` letter and down arrow keys) during the boot (the time between the manufacturer logo and the system loading), systemd-boot doesn't hang.
Thanks to this strange behaviour, I was able to set the proper timeout back and to choose a different menu entry.

Anyway, the issue is not fixed !!!

Re: systemd-boot hangs if I press any key

I can reproduce this. The first keypress is executed but also immediately freezes the systemd-boot menu.

Also your trick of pressing a key on entering the boot menu did not work for me.
