When running the initial initramfs hooks, I get a kernel error
[drm:finish_csr_load [i915]] *ERROR* Unknown stepping info, firmware loading failed
This doesn't seem to affect anything operational on my system, but I'd like to remove it if possible as it might hint to some subtle bugs.
Any idea where this is coming from? System is a fully updated Skylake-generation Intel NUC.

Seems to be several i915 bugs that are resolved only in 4.5.x kernel

just installed a fresh 4.5.0 kernel
I still have these errors on my new skylake NUC:
[drm:csr_load_work_fn [i915]] *ERROR* Unknown stepping info, firmware loading failed
[drm:csr_load_work_fn [i915]] *ERROR* Failed to load DMC firmware, disabling rpm

I have the same problem on my skylake nuc (fedora 23).
After passing the bootloader, I often get this message. It's trial and error... Sometimes it boots, sometimes I get this message.
Any solutions ?

Anyone tried with the lastest kernel 4.6-rc2 ?

I'm on 4.6-RC2. My Iris 520 is working good after applying patch found here

It seems to be fixed in 4.6-rc5 (#94161 patch is included in rc5)
so "i915.enable_rc6=0" shouldn't be needed.

I just installed 4.6-RC6 I confirm that these errors are gone and no more specific boot parameters needed.
