X-Apps - old school replacement of GNOME apps

Some of you may be missing the good ol' gedit or evince... So this may interest you.

http://segfault.linuxmint.com/2016/02/t … are-ready/

Is there any chance of this hitting the main repos once it's ready or is it something only for AUR?

As far as universal apps go, they might as well start porting XFCE apps. I already install and use parole instead of totem.... in gnome.

I also favor xfce4-terminal instead of gnome-terminal

Apps typically start in the AUR and get moved to the main repos if there is enough interest from users and a TU/Dev.

Not quite, this will be implemented in GTK3 while I believe MATE is still running on GTK2 (or a fork thereof).

I'm interested in how they will tackle the configuration. Would be a bit silly if their desktop agnostic apps were using DConf, GConf or whatever it's called these days.

I think they're not so keen on taking Xfce applications because:
- Xfce apps already use Xfce-specific widgets and whatnot, so it'll be a porting job
- Xfce is not as active as Gnome so they won't have an as reliable upstream to backport new functionality of

Oh. I thought this was about GTK+ (1) applications running on modern installations. Man, those suckers would FLY...

But this is a great idea for a project. I'll probably check out the software they release. In recent years I've switched to more and more Qt / KDE applications due to the intense GNOMEification of the ones I used to use.

Aren't those basically the programs that are already in community in the groups mate-gtk3 and mate-extra-gtk3 ?

A small and lightweight text editor. X-Apps Project.
xplayer 1.0.3-1
    Simple media player. X-Apps Project.
xplayer-plparser 1.0.2-1
Playlist parser for xplayer. X-Apps Project.
xreader 1.0.3-1
Document viewer for files like PDF and Postscript. X-Apps Project.
xviewer 1.0.2-1
A simple and easy to use image viewer. X-Apps Project.

Man, and I was so sure I didn't have to do research this time... Well for now at least they're practically still running on GTK2 ^^'

Thanks for the info.
