[SOLVED] Bootctl: command not found

Hi

I hope it's okay to post in this thread since I have the same issue with my installation - that's why I'm writing this on my phone at the moment.

I followed this guide:
http://tobyx.com/2015/arch-linux-wde

Now, when I'm in 'arch-chroot /mnt /bin/bash' and try 'bootctl install', I get 'bash: bootctl: command not found'. In front of the prompt, it says [root@archiso /], btw.

When I exit chroot and try the 'bootctl install' command I get the same error like the OP.

Any help would be highly appreciated since I can't use my productivity system at the moment because of my stupidity.

Your problem is different, and the solution is: don't follow third-party guides. Use the wiki.

Re: [SOLVED] Bootctl: command not found

I will definitely remember this for my next install, this website just seemed to explain it well compressed without too many distracting options concerning the encryption.  Is there for now a way to fix my existing installation or do I have to completely start all over?

Re: [SOLVED] Bootctl: command not found

So, where did you leave off?  It sounds like you are just missing the boot loader at this point.
You can remount your partitions and go back into the chroot.  There you can install a boot loader.

Which boot loader did you plan to use?  Is this a BIOS/MBR system, or a uefi/GPT system? I don't use any, just an efi stub.  ReFind and systemd-boot are generally hastle free.  The same cannot be said of Grub.

Re: [SOLVED] Bootctl: command not found

That's the problem I tried to describe - 'no command found' when  I tried to install systemd-boot in chroot (bootctl install ), partitions are mounted, it's an UEFi/GPT-install.

Re: [SOLVED] Bootctl: command not found

Inside the chroot, you should have core/systemd installed.  It is installed by the pacstrap command, which you ran before the first time you chrooted.
Inside the chroot, verify that it is installed with pacman -Qi systemd

Re: [SOLVED] Bootctl: command not found

Wow, I can't even express how embarassing that is. After several Arch installations, I must have skipped half or all of the pacstrap command - which led to 4 hours more work than it would actually have required and this query.

After I executed the command I was able to finish the installation - not a very clean install but next time I will do better.

Thanks a lot for your help!
