Hi
Few days ago I noticed somewhat strange behaviour of vte based terminals: when I start i3wm and open a vte based terminal (sakura, terminator, etc.) and I start to type, the characters are not displayed in the terminal
However, when I press enter, the typed command gets displayed in the line and executed. Unfortunately *reset* command does not help at all - the terminal gets reset, but the odd behaviour is still there. This only applies to vte based terminals; xterm, urxvt, terminology - those are absolutely fine.
Now, for the fun part: it all goes back to normal when I start chromium (in a separate workspace for instance)
Once a chromium session is started, I can go back to the terminal and the peculiar behaviour goes away (I can see what I type) UNTIL I close chromium and ... it comes back again (I can't see what I type).
I tried different user accounts, including root, to fix it, to no avail.
As far as I'm aware, there's nothing unusual in the logs.
Guys, HELP! I'm going slightly mad. What the hell is going on here??
Cheers

Can you reproduce in twm (or any other WM/DE)?

Yup!
Tried in Openbox and Fluxbox : exactly the same behaviour! ![]()

EDIT: NOPE! doesn't work again
I thought I've successfully solved it, but it started happening again ![]()

All right! Found it!
/etc/vconsole.conf got wiped during full system update and that was the problem! I've just added KEYMAP=gb and all is back to normal!
Very odd though!

I'm totally confused now:
- in gnome-session terminals work just fine - i.e. I can see what I type
- in any other WM - I cannot see what I type
(with or without gnome-session-daemon running)
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???
I've got the correct locale:
System Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
VC Keymap: uk
X11 Layout: uk

Nevertheless, I'm baffled how a gfx driver bug can cause such odd behaviour ![]()
