KDE: no interaction with non qt tray icons: popup men does not show up

For some time I noticed that I'm not able to interact with non qt tray icons (like from nm-applet, solaar, ums) which renders those applications completely unusable.

Any idea how to fix it?

fresh installation, fully updated.
