Thinkpad multimedia keys not recognized by xbindkeys?

I just got a used Thinkpad T420 this past week, and trying to configure the bindings for the Fn + F[1-12] keys has been frustrating to say the least. Fn + F2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 work fine. However, I cannot get xbindkeys_config to even recognize when I press Fn + F1, 3, 4, 10, 11, or 12. Could this be a software issue or possibly some hardware problem with the keyboard itself?

What does showkey say about those keys?

F3 returns code 236, the other 5 do respond but very infrequently. F3 still isn't recognized by xbindkeys though.
