Recently I have noticed weird graphical glitches on some panels. Taskbar items remain "burned in" into the taskbar after they get closed. Anything appearing "above" the panel gets also burned in and remains there until something is drawn over it. The weird thing is: it's not appearing in screenshots. I had to literally take a picture of my screen to capture it.

It's not happening when the desktop is composited (I tested it with Compton with both Openbox and i3). I have tested a few panels: lxpanel (gtk2 and 3 version), mate-panel and xfce4-panel and they're all suffering from this. I haven't noticed anything suspicious or different in any logs. I have also tested the LTS kernel with the same results: the glitches are still appearing.
I am using a Thinkpad T410, with Intel HD Graphics (Ironlake). I tested this on another computer with Nvidia graphics (using nouveau drivers) and it's not happening there, so I assume it's an Intel thing.
Can someone with similar/identical hardware confirm this? I want to rule out faulty hardware on my end and maybe report this somewhere upstream (once I figure out which component is actually responsible for this).

Which version of the intel driver are you using? Are you up to date?

Intel HD Graphics (Ironlake)
Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … SNA_issues?
Although:
it's not appearing in screenshots
may suggest a hardware issue (?screen/connector).

I tried UXA instead of the default SNA and the glitches were gone. The only downside was that UXA gave me horrible tearing. The TearFree option doesn't appear to work with it according to the Wiki and a short practical confirmation. I've been using SNA without any problems until now; one of the newer driver updates must have messed something up.

I've been using the xf86-video-intel driver from the main repository.
local/xf86-video-intel 1:2.99.917+654+g88733a7-1 (xorg-drivers xorg)
X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video driversThere's a newer version, xf86-video-intel 1:2.99.917+654+ga508b11-1, in the "testing" repositories. Installing that version fixed it!
Thank you for the help and nudge in the right direction.
