I've Googled but all I can find is in the man page for smartctl "Bit 2: Some SMART command to the disk failed, or there was a checksum error in a SMART data structure (see '-b' option above)." However, I see no warnings about the SMART structures in the output or failed commands.
Offline
I have a drive that is giving the same return code. If you look in the manual it says the -x command is equivalent to the following:
smartctl -H -i -g all -c -A -f brief -l xerror,error -l xselftest,selftest -l selective -l directory -l scttemp -l scterc -l devstat -l sataphy
I just went through each option individually to find which was causing the return code (it ended up being the scterc command not being supported) - if the return code is not specific to any one option I guess its probably a checksum error, googling other enquiries on that seems to suggest that it can be safely ignored.

You probably want to see 'man smartctl', this is documented there. I'd say that with that error code there is nothing to worry about.
