Install onto USB thumb drive - no keyboard or mouse

Hi,

This is a peculiar problem as the operating system reaches a recovery console.  Then I am unable to interact with it except via the power button on the PC.  I can not even check the logs.

I was asked by the original poster to reconsider my action.  I have no excuse, I clearly misread other post and missed the call on this.
Sorry about that.

Sounds like the initramfs is missing drivers for your keyboard. Sometimes the keyboard hook does not pull in the relevant stuff.

You can try and boot an Arch live system (e.g. the install image) and check which drivers your keyboard uses, then add those to your initramfs via MODULES in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf. Also see here.
