Thought was burned out ssd then this happened

After I updated my arch install I started getting

ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
ata1.00: error: { IDNF }
ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0X4000 SErr 0x0 action 0x0
ata1.00: irq_stat 0x40000008
ata1.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED

now I replaced the drive with a 5400rpm drive and trying to make a usb drive to install arch on it where I can install arch on the usb drive. At first I thought my ssd just went out after the upgrade but now I'm a bit skeptical, seeing it come from the iso I just downloaded 2 hours ago with a new thumb drive I just bought today.

does anybody have any ideas on what can be causing it?

Edit: make it a little more clear, also I've been an arch user for 5 years and I had this ssd for a year

Edit 2: just tried ubuntu to see if it would throw the error and it didn't, got to be either a kernel or driver issue. I'm out of ideas hopefully somebody can help. also tried a sdcard which had the same problem
