Fresh Arch- can't login into pre-existing user account w/CORRECT pw

Hi,
Due to a (Win related) system crash, I had to do a fresh re-installation of my Arch_xf86-64.
As my former separate /home partition (single user) wasn't corrupted, I've kept it, and not formatted it during the new installation.
When adding a user as part of the installation, I've selected the same user name/pw, and remember I've got a message nothing was written as it already existed.
I've installed xorg and sddm and rebooted.
After reboot, I could NOT login to my user account, although using the CORRECT pw.
I've switched to a terminal and, as root, tried  the following

# su miki
bash: /home/miki/.bashrc: Permission denied

running whoami showed the correct user (miki)

running, as root, passwd -Sa returned (among others)

miki P 05/14/2016 0 99999 7 -1

Please advise

Thanks

It's saying permission denied, so a good place to start would be to check the ownership and permission on .bashrc, and every directory leading up to it.

Thanks all, solved by installing Plasma/KDE.

OP - Just an FYI: the authentication credentials used to log users  in are not stored in the user's /home directory but under /etc.
