Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone, just starting out with Arch and at the moment doing and learning the command line, then maybe a GUI install only time will tell. I would like to say thanks to those that have been there and done that for leaving the bread crumbs "wiki & forum" for beginners like me to follow. wink

Greetings to all,
Tom

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi Everyone,

First post. Been on Manjaro for a couple of years but a new laptop for work gave me the opportunity to go full Arch. Loving it so far. All my hardware is working perfectly. I'm a Plasma 5 user, and have been using KDE since Mandrake bundled it with their version of RedHat Linux in 1998. The best thing about Arch so far for me is that it lets me build my own system from the ground up: I only have installed what I want installed.

Thanks for a great distro.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi guys, I'm new to this community, I have been using Linux for 7 years now. But now have made the switch to Arch smile
I have setup my system with OpenBox, tint2 (planing to replace with LemonBar) as I wanted it to be as light weight as possible!!

Will love to customise this even further.

Hope to have a good time here and contribute to the community as much as I can.

Hi everyone,
I'm denbrahe, using Arch since december as daily driver.
It was my first GNU/Linux distro, so I still consider myself a beginner.
Happy to be here smile

Hello,
As a newb stumbling upon ArchLinux, just wanted to join the community to get some help on some
stuff I keep getting stuck on.
A problem shared with more heads will probably get solved quicker and all that.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone!
I recently installed Arch on my second try. I've only used Mint before. I heard Arch is supposed to be a good learning experience and a fun challenge and so far I agree. Thought I should join the forum. I plan to read the recommended guidelines on how to properly post questions in the forum, to make it easier for myself and others. wink

If by "newb" you mean you're a newb to linux as well as a newb to ArchLinux, my hat's off to you. I think that's a bold move. Either way, it's respectable. I think most people who move into linux look for one that seems easy to install.

My first one or two Arch installs came with bumps and bruises. Not one to give up without a fight, I re-read the Wiki and got Arch to work. It's incredibly fast and light weight.

Welcome to the Arch community, all of you other newcomers!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello, I recently installed Arch Linux with GRUB2 (I finally did it, yay!) to better understand how Linux work at the core (someone told me it was good for development too).

This is not my first linux install (but surely the first distro I've installed with a terminal).

I'm a web, mobile and desktop programmer, as well as a comics artist and music composer (I'm 19 years old, what did you expect...?).

Anyway, hello everyone from Naples, Italy! u.u

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello there,

21 years old Computer Science student from Germany/Duesseldorf here, who loves to programm and do math.

I am using Linux for a longer time but still sometimes dont know what I have to do if I get a error, lolz.

Never been satisfied with Ubuntu/Debian neither with Antergos/Manjaro. Because of my lazyness it took some time to install Arch on my Laptop.
(My only problem was to understand the partitioning, the "which size should my partition have" was a big problem. This process to too long, I should be ashamed big_smile )

Everything is working (better than on other Distros, e.g. Laptop freezes if I close the lid in Antergos) except network printing. That makes me sad. sad
I hope it will work some day.

But I have fun with archlinux. smile

Have a nice day!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello,

New(ish) Linux user here. I went from Mint -> Debian -> Arch in the past 6 months. Every step has taught me tons of new things.

The reason I went from Debian to Arch is that almost every time I searched for linux stuff I ended up reading Arch Wiki. So I wanted to see what it's about. Loving it so far - though I still have Debian as my secondary OS.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello all,

I am not really new to linux, but I run into problems all the time so I have been reading the Arch Wiki for a long time and finally made an account a while back with my first post being yesterday (hasn't been answered yet...).

I am officially no longer a lurker.

Welcome to Arch from another forum newbie. Personally,  I have long favored stability over "cutting edge" or "bleeding edge" operating systems. I have used Debian for over 5 years, and still use it.

As I learned more about how to use linux, the fear of "breaking something" began to fade. Sometime last year, I did my first Arch install as a virtual machine on a Debian box, and now I have Arch installed on "bare metal" on two machines, plus a couple of thumb drives. I'm beginning to favor useability over stability.

I'm using Arch Linux more and more, and loving it more and more. The more you use it, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you love it.  I hope you enjoy your Arch machine.

You mentioned the Arch Wiki. I'm not alone in my opinion the Arch Wiki is the best linux documentation available.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,

I'm not new to Arch. My Linux journey started about ten years ago with debain and gentoo.
After a while I switched to Arch and stayed with it. (it was the 0.7.2 iso, I think...)
For the last three years I was a Windows only user, but now using (Arch) Linux again.

Have a nice day! smile
