Sound is choppy/crackling when mouse goes to the external monitor

Hi.

I have a Dell XPS 15 (2016).
I use the latest Arch Linux, with Gnome.

If I play a video with VLC or Chrome without anything plugged in, the sound is OK.

If I plug a secondary monitor (HDMI), the sounds becomes choppy/crackling when I move the mouse to the secondary monitor (???????)
I use my laptop's speaker (not HDMI).

I've tried anything I could find on Arch wiki/forum.

Can you help me?
Thanks.

I just tested with mate-gtk3, same issue.
By the way, I also use GDM.
