As far as I understand the problem is that gtk theme is not compatible with GTK 3.20?

Do you know if there going to be some global long term solution for this?

As far as I observed: there's nothing that KDE folks cand do. Breeze-gtk is only one of the gtk themes that got broken due to gtk 3.20 updates. Unless Gnome devs stop changing the way theming works every few months, what can you do? It's not a new issue, it's a Gnome 3 trademark.

if KDE Bug Tracker: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361066 is right, it should be resolved with Plasma5.7 (release date 2016-07-05)
