dolphin qt5 ignores Maxsize in index.theme icon file

Dolphin qt5 on the left and dolphin qt4 on the right.
Each of the file managers is using the very same breeze theme and they show a dual panel view with the same item icons in 16px (left pane) and 80px (right pane).
As you can see, dolphin qt5 is using the same images for both the panes, but it is scaling the pictures, while dolphin qt4 uses the bigger icon files when the requested icon size is bigger.

Is it a bug? Is it a feature? Does it happen to you too?

Hi,

If you have breeze-kde4 installed then qt4 should be the same look as the qt5 one. But I think you want to move the appereance of the qt4 to the qt5 one?
I think you need to try to configure the qt5 one as you like, or try to copy the dolpin config file from .kde folder to .config folder.

I'd like qt5 dolphin to pick the right icon size from the available icon files, instead of scaling the low-sized icon files.
Dolphin qt4 does that.

Maybe a video is clearer then my words:
dolphin q4 scaling icons, notice that the displayed image changes.
This means the picked icon image changes according to the icon size requested, which imho, is the right thing to do:

It seems a bug in dolphin.
According to https://specifications.freedesktop.org/ … atest.html

When type is "Scalable":
MinSize: Specifies the minimum size that the icons in this directory can be scaled to. Defaults to the value of Size if not present.
MaxSize: Specifies the maximum size that the icons in this directory can be scaled to. Defaults to the value of Size if not present.

and from breeze index.theme:

[mimetypes/16]
Size=16
Context=MimeTypes
Type=Fixed
MinSize=16

#22x22 - Fixed size - For small file type icons >!!!ONLY!!!< - DO_NOT_USE_ANYWHERE_ELSE - Monochrome
[mimetypes/22]
Size=22
Context=MimeTypes
Type=Scalable
MinSize=22
MaxSize=24

...but MaxSize=24 is ignored by dolphin qt5, it uses the first Scalable type icons for all of the bigger sizes.

Somebody confirm?

I just testet it on my system and it is working properly.

You should test it with a new user to be sure that it isn't some config thing.

Thanks for testing, did you tried with breeze icon theme?
I have to add that i'm using qt5ct plugin

Np, yeah it is with breeze i am using plasma.
And changing the icon size looks exactly like in your video for dolphin-qt4 (before you ask i dont even have dolphinpart4 installed )
