Steam is broken in Arch

Hi everyone,

has anyone ever gotten this weird bug in Steam? I have tried googling to no avail.

Basically, Steam never renders anything more than a broken login screen and that's all. See below

Thanks

I have found that. Unfortunately it didn't seem to fix my problem. The drivers and the libraries are currently synchronized.

The reason I uploaded a picture is because it is the best way to illustrate what Steam is doing.

Re: Steam is broken in Arch

Anyone know anything? I would prefer to not have to completely reinstall my Arch system just for this.

Re: Steam is broken in Arch

The white rectangle with unrelated black and red text is probably the "broken loginscreen" ?

What command are you using to start steam?
what is the full output of that command ?

What makes you think re-installing arch will fix this problem ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Yes, that is the broken login screen.

The command is just steam in the terminal.

Because Steam does work on my other machine at home that is also running Arch. Also, I think that what happened was that I enabled multilib_testing but not core/community testing. When I disabled multilib testing, I thought it would fix the issue, but it did not.

This machine is unique in that it really is a server with 32cores (two discrete Intel Xeons).

I appreciate all the help you guys have given me so far, I really do. Thank you!

Re: Steam is broken in Arch

It seems plausible that it is a problem with multilib. But just disabling multilib_testing won't help because the old stuff is still installed. My guess is that you need to uninstall all (relevant) packages from multilib_testing to solve this problem.

I just tried that. I commented multilib_testing and then ran pacman -Syyuu and I still have the same problem.
Unless there's something else that I need to do that I'm not aware of.

Did you check your logs from the downgrade?

I actually went4 ahead and completely reinstalled Arch Linux.

Only to run into the same issue...

Now I'm completely at loss for what to do.

Re: Steam is broken in Arch

Weird... Does anyone here know which grapical toolkit steam uses? Is it Qt? It would be good to know if this really a steam-specific problem or if it is a toolkit problem.

Have you installed any of the packages that are specific to your graphics card?:

$ pacman -Si steam

Optional Deps : lib32-mesa-dri: for open source driver users
                  lib32-catalyst-utils: for AMD Catalyst users
lib32-nvidia-utils: for NVIDIA proprietary blob users
lib32-alsa-plugins: for pulseaudio on some games
