#i,
two days ago i reinstalled my arch system on my Laptop (Lenovo T440s).
Now i'm experiencing random system freezes, and i don't have a clue what might cause them.
Symptoms:
- System freezes without any load, just Xserver with Awesome and Emacs or the like running.
- CPU Temperature is normal or lower than average (i'm constantly monitoring, during the last freeze it showed 38°).
- Can't change to Vconsole
- Magic SysRq keys don't work
Vague ideas for causes:
- powertop ?
I optimized the system for log battery live, and i've used 'powertop --auto-tune' successfully on the previous installation,
so i'd wonder why this should freeze my system now ...
- thinkfan ? But i think it freezed before i enabled this as well ...
- i've tried the iwlwifi powersave options, but i've already disabled them ...
(as descibed here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Po … wlwifi.29)
- disabled ethernet module (e1000e) or bluetooth ?
Anybody got a hint how to find more clues ?
Regards,
n

Could it be memory-related?
dmesg shows several messages like this:
[mem 0x00000000-0x00000fff] could not be reserved

try if the issue persists with linux-lts kernel.
EDIT: if you're suspecting your RAM (or some other hardware piece) could be faulty, try running memtest

Hm, so for now i downgraded the kernel to the last 4.5.x version, no more problems with freezes ... so yeah, i might try the LTS version ...
