Openoffice fails to start

Whenever I try to start openoffice, the splash screen shows briefly followed by this dialog box:

oo.png

...and that's it. no messages on the console, no nothing. This is a fresh install of openoffice-base from pacman.

Anyone got the slightest clue here? I really need OO.o today hmm

Yup, same error.

This is the first time I've installed openoffice on this system.

Re: Openoffice fails to start

Did you try running it as root?

Have a look at the hidden files in your home folder. I bet your .openoffice (if it is named like that, I am not sure) is owned by root. Delete it.

Re: Openoffice fails to start

Thanks guys, yeah it was the .openoffice.org2 dir, it was owned by root. Looks like openoffice.org's first run wizard is b0rked.

/off topic
Does anyone know of an open source GTK based presentation maker that isn't Impress? If only I could find such a thing, I'd seriously think about no longer using OOo and switching to AbiWord/Gnumeric/other smaller, less bloated apps with better user interface design.

Re: Openoffice fails to start

I had this problem as well so thanks for the tip. I'm quite impressed by how fast arch loads openoffice. It's dog slow in ubuntu and windows.
