Hi everyone,

My name is Rui, I have been using mostly OS X but Linux as well for some years. I am new to Arch, I liked the development philosophy so I decided to give it a try.

Cheers

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everybody! I'm coming from a 4 year experience with Ubuntu and I noticed Arch few months ago. I've been undecided if to switch or not because even if I can say "I don't fear the terminal" my background is still more a point and click approach due to how the *ubuntu environment is.

What made me to switch has been a stupid issue with an update of network manager which prevent it to connect to 802.1x wifis and even if the upstream fixed it in a couple of days it took 3 weeks to see that damn package in the repo. That little issue made me take the jump smile

Got to say your wiki here is awesome.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

¡Hola compañer@s!

I am a GNU-Linux addict, not a professional, not a programmer, I just "believe" in opensource. sharing, DiY and collective learning.
I like very much Arch linux even-though i use mostly debian due to the fact taht I animate a WiFi forum where users use debian and derivate systems.
But we often refer to the arch linux documentation because that is simply the best wiki you can find around.
Amazing documentation.
Today i found (again) an answer to my questions here so I thought it is time to register and say thank you to all this great community!
Take care all!

Salut les copains,

I'm an occasional Linux user since many years, and an everyday Arch Linux one since almost two years. (since I care about my privacy, performances, personalization, ...)
I love the Arch philosophy, I love the Arch wiki, I love the AUR, I almost always find what I was looking for.

Carry on!
Love

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi,
was searching for all kind of linux related problem of ubuntu and debian and got a lot of useful answers from archlinux.org which made me want to try Arch linux out.   I am truly impressed with the users community and how tech wise they are compared to many other.   And how fast it is compared to the other linux systems.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

@Grenadingue and @steini,

Welcome!

I am by no means authorized to greet you by the forum admins & moderators. In other words, I am just a regular Arch user,  but I am very glad you are here. And who can resist the urge to say "Hello" to a new forum member?

I am an Arch Linux newbie myself, but the reasons you gave for using Arch reflect my own reasons for using it, and I hope you enjoy Arch as much as I do.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello Everyone,
I am a researcher (Bioinformatics, proteins, Biophysics) and I've been using Linux as my only OS since 2003 (I started with Suse, then switched to Ubuntu). I was introduced to the Arch's world by the Antergos derivate, almost a year ago. I am very happy with Arch so far and expect to remain using it for a long while. I hope to start paying back to the community as soon as possible. Entering this forum is my first step towards this goal.
Thanks to you all for this great distro.
Best regards,
Matahashiro.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone. Since last Friday I have installed Arch, with the Mate desktop on my old, cheap laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 2727 2gb RAM) and my Dell Optiplex 760 desktop (8 gb RAM). Both these installs were done using the Beginners Guide and using the Wiki and this forum for the solution to sticky problems along the way.

I had got the Arch bug by using Manjaro and Antergos for a couple of months and was sold on the idea of a rolling release and found pacman to be wonderful. I then installed 'Arch' using Architect, but knew it wasn't the right way to do it and even felt a bit guilty, so decided to do it properly. My linux experience goes back to the mid 1990s when I installed Slackware on an old 486 using a pile of around 20 floppy disks.

The laptop works better than it ever has and I've had it for about 8 years and it's run everything, almost, in that time. The Optiplex has only just been commisioned, but I expect it to be very snappy.

I think I've found my 'home' in Arch and am sure my ditro hopping days are done!

@shawny, Greetings, and welcome to the Arch obsession. I enjoyed your post.

I say "obsession" because I now have Arch Linux on multiple machines. My first "bare metal" install was on a ten year old Compaq PC, boasting only 1Gb RAM. I am still impressed by the increase in speed on that old machine.

Enjoy!

Hello! I have been using arch for about two months now, and I think it's become my favorite and primary Linux distribution to operate. I recently came across the Arch forums and have been lurking for a bit now, I think it's time to start posting some!
I mostly like programming and desktop ricing, nice to meet you!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi there everyone,

Glad to finally create an account instead of just reading posts. I'm a professional (junior level) software engineer. Been a linux user for several years. Mostly used Ubuntu and have tried out most of the popular linux distributions. Been using Arch now for about 6 months and overall it's been a very positive experience. I was drawn to Arch because most of my searching online for linux help led me to the Arch Wiki/Forums. Now I'm hoping to get some help with a wifi related kernel panic..

See you all on the forums!

Hi, I'm interested to socialize with Archers in the San Francisco Bay area, and others who share a DIY/homebrew approach to computing.

Maybe search for or post a thread in the Arch Discussion sub forum? You may want to contact admin for guidance...

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello! I've been using Arch for years now but I guess it's time to stop lurking in the forums and to actually do something!

I've tried using other distros as my daily driver but I always find myself missing the AUR and the wiki!

See you all in the forums.
