I read Chinese/Japanese/Korean (CJK) often on Firefox and Thunderbird. Unfortunately, without any configuration, both applications use suboptimal fonts as fallbacks for CJK.
Following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … r_with_X11, I managed to set up proper fallbacks for fonts both applications use: serif, sans-serif (also known as Sans), and monospace.
Firefox follows my fontconfig fallback preferences and looks fine now. However, Thunderbird still uses the ugly default fallbacks. Does anyone know why?
Yes, I am aware that I can easily define userChrome.css for Thunderbird with my preferred font and move on. I just want to learn why only Thunderbird ignores fontconfig while all my other applications behave as expected.
I have tried both $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/fontconfig/fonts.conf and /etc/fonts/local.conf
