Error retrieving qt5-xmlpatterns

I'm trying to install kdenlive and qt5-xmlpatterns, among others dependencies, aren't found:

I then tried some simpler things like re-installing qt5-base, which succeeded:

So where can I find these qt5-xmlpatters?

Please use code tags when pasting terminal output.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … s_and_code

You need to update your package lists, qt5-xmlpatterns 5.6.1 is no longer in the repos. run 'pacman -Syu kdenlive qt5-xmlpatterns'.

Welcome to Arch Linux.  My colleague did not point it out, but what you attempted is called a partial upgrade; they are not supported.

Re: Error retrieving qt5-xmlpatterns

Thanks, and of course using -Syu solved the problem.

Out of curiosity, why not default to -Syu when using -S or maybe create a new operation?

PS: I'll use a code tag next time.

I don't have the canonical answer.  I assume it is because of server bandwidth.  One also uses the -S to reinstall from cache.  Also, If I am installing several things in one session it is probably okay to start with -Syu and then use -S for subsequent installs in a given session; assuming you don't take too long smile

How is that a partial upgrade? Partial upgrades are when you sync the repos and try to install an updated version of one package while keeping outdated versions of other packages.

Trying to install an outdated version of one package and failing because an outdated dependency cannot be downloaded and isn't cached isn't a partial upgrade, it is *just* an outdated sync database. Which is harmless. In fact, some people use those deliberately via the ALA. And if you accidentally turned off your internet then you could even duplicate the download error!
