Recently the qemu guest agent stopped working in my VM running Windows 8.1. I have installed all current drivers (and the current qemu-ga) from the virtio-win iso image, especially the vioserial which seems to be precondition for qemu-ga to run as it uses the serial interface. When running the qemu-ga from console, I get the following:
<timestamp>: critical: error opening path
<timestamp>: critical: error opening channel
<timestamp>: critical: failed to create guest agent channel
<timestamp>: critical: failed to initialize guest agent channelI believe that this has started to occurr either after upgrade to kernel 4.6.2 or to qemu version 2.6 (more likely the latter). In any case, I have been happily using qemu-ga's features without problems previously.
Any ideas where I could start to investigate? I haven't found anything useful on this topic via web search...

Heh. Somehow the channel for qemu-ga got lost from my VM, and I overlooked to re-add it. So I was able to fix it by adding a channel via virt-manager with the target org.qemu.guest_agent.0 .
