Re: Starting off with Arch Linux as a beginner

Ok now i know that archect is not arch. Its confusing because they say that architect is an installer for arch linux. Sorry for the need to tell me over and over again.

They aren't in a position to declare their script an installer for Arch.

Well, strictly speaking everything that installs Arch is an installer for Arch. It's just nothing official or supported, and it's heavily frowned upon. When the AIF was discontinued, people were even (somewhat) encouraged to replace it with something better, it's just that none of the attempts were even remotely universal or good enough to be the new default. Since then, every time a user ask a question that already screams "I didn't install Arch on my own", you automatically know, that somebody wrote another script that does something unusual and somebody else used it without understanding a thing.

No, not even strictly (or semantically) speaking. The only thing that installs Arch is someone doing it themselves: that is the whole point. Once you use an installer/script/your grandmother, you are running something else. Something that this community neither cares about nor supports.

Looks like my friends are using Rethil OS or Rethil's Linux (don't know which sounds less lame) instead of Arch then. Well, I will stay one man community and support.

Jokes aside, as Awebb said in common sense every automated script that installs Arch is Arch installer, or better - installer for Arch Linux. They are just not supported by Arch community.

Re: Starting off with Arch Linux as a beginner

In "common sense" this discussion could continue indefinitely, but as we already have enough help vampirism and learned helplessness here; ably abetted by these installers, I think there is no further need to encourage it by attempting to legitimise the notion that they are Arch Linux.

Closing.
