This question sounds pretty stupid, but I swear nothing I've found on internet (including the wiki pages on udisks, udev and file manager functionality:mounting) gave me an answer: how can I tell PCManFM to use SpaceFM's developer's udevil to handle device mounts, instead of gvfs/udisks2? I'm not using SpaceFM any more for the lack of XDS/XDND support.

Why don't you use spaceFM then?
Edit: Sorry I realize you explain why at the end of your post.
So is there a way to tell PcmanFM to not do automounting as a configuration option?
I see too that gvfs and udisks are optional dependencies for pcmanfm, so you can uninstall them and use only udevil for mounting.

Sorry, I probably wasn't 100% clear in my post.
Automount is already disabled (I loathe it). What I want is PCManFM to use udevil instead of udisks2 when I click on a drive in the drive list (manual mount, but through the file manager instead of command line).

I edited my post a second time with:

Wouldn't removing gvfs disable its other functions too (mainly, trash support)? I'd want to keep the trash functionality, but have udevil do the mounting.

Can this link be useful for you: http://wiki.lxde.org/fr/Guide_de_compil … rt_de_GVFS
Which translates as:
To disable GVFS support
One of these two following solutions can be used:-- uninstall gvfs (should always work) ;
-- more elegantly, the following commands can be used (this works even if gvfs is installed).
# export GIO_USE_VFS="local"
# export GIO_USE_VOLUME_MONITOR="unix"
