Hello everyone! Does anyone here have problems with Pitivi video editor?
I have created a project and "wasted" around 5 hours on it, editing.
The resulting video is around 30 minutes long.
I had 3 issues so far and I hope that you will know how to solve them, because,
it looks like I will have to start over, from the beginning.
1.) From time to time, while editing, I move the position bar to different parts of the video and
it seems that sometimes it just gets stuck and I cannot move it unless I restart Pitivi.
2.) Rendering is awfully slow. I even tried to render the video on the "iPod" settings and for
the length of 30 minutes, it said 256 hours of rendering left!
Actually, the number just keeps on rising.
And the worst part is that, it doesn't use my processor correctly. It uses around 10% while rendering, maybe less.
I tried different codecs and I get the similar results. Pitivi even has performance issues while editing!
3.) I gave up rendering and decided to try some other day. And, when I opened the project again the next day, Pitivi freezes when loading. So, I cannot open my project anymore.
OpenShot crashes from time to time and I lose my whole project.
Kdenlive won't even open the "save/open file dialog"
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4650 (1GB of video memory)
Processor: Intel QuadCore Processor ( around 3 GHz )
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
x64 Arch / X11 / GNOME
Video editing on Linux seems rough. Do you have any tips?
Thanks. ![]()

I've been playing around with pitivi lately, and also encountered issue 2 with 0.96 and git version. I'm quite sure it never happened on 0.95 though. Looks like the issue is reported here: https://phabricator.freedesktop.org/T3287
Even though the direction the developers have taken with pitivi seems quite promising, it seems like at its current state there are still quite a few bugs. Best you can do is report them and help development in any way you can.
I also experimented with lightworks (lwks on AUR), but had issues importing some video clips, and didn't like how the interface worked, but ymmv. Also it's not open source and the free version has some annoying limitations.
You can use blender to edit video (you should be able to find some tutorials for that on google), and it may be the stablest application you can use for that purpose on linux currently.

Thanks for replying and sorry for the late response.
Fortunately, I've found a solution, but it is temporary.
I've started off using kdenlive.. and, even though it still has some bugs, it works quite well
(sadly, I had to install "Plasma" so it could display Open/Save dialog properly.)
As for Pitivi, I hope the bugs will get fixed soon; it is a great piece of software and looks quite promising.
