Freeze in GDM after Kernel Upgrade

Hello,

After a kernel upgrade my computer seems to freeze in GDM. The freeze happens after about 3-5 seconds after the login screen is visible. Before that, the mouse and keyboard are usable, and after this short period no keyboard or mouse input is registered. Changing the virtual terminal is not possible and I have to do a manual hard restart.

My current kernel version is

Linux loki 4.5.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed May 11 22:21:28 CEST 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Every upgrade therafter froze the system as described above. The problem occured the first time a few weeks ago after a full system update, and I did not have the time to find the problem until now.

I suspect the kernel because I started upgrading certain packages in isolation and trying to replicate the problem. I upgraded the kernel, kernel headers and kernel firmware to their current versions and the problem happened again:

core/linux                         4.5.4-1                   -> 4.6.3-1
core/linux-firmware                20160315.deb1d83-1        -> 20160516.80d463b-1
core/linux-headers                 4.5.4-1                   -> 4.6.3-1

Downgrading to kernel version to 4.5.4-1 fixes the problem.

I am using a Toshiba Portégé Z30-A-159 (http://www.toshiba.de/discontinued-prod … z30-a-159/).

The only obvious errors of journalctl log of a problematic boot are:

Jul 14 15:16:56 loki kernel: [drm:intel_psr_work [i915]] *ERROR* Timed out waiting for PSR Idle for re-enable
Jul 14 15:16:57 loki kernel: [drm:intel_psr_work [i915]] *ERROR* Timed out waiting for PSR Idle for re-enable
Jul 14 15:16:57 loki kernel: [drm:intel_psr_work [i915]] *ERROR* Timed out waiting for PSR Idle for re-enable

and

Jul 14 15:17:38 loki org.gnome.Shell.desktop[906]: libinput error: kernel bug: Touch jump detected and discarded.
Jul 14 15:17:38 loki org.gnome.Shell.desktop[906]: See https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/1.3.0/touchpad_jumping_cursor for details

Although the link in the last error gives me a 404 and googling it indicates a non-critical problem.

Any hints on what the problem might be?

Thank you.

EDIT: Booting into multi-user mode works just fine, which is how I downgraded the kernel.
