Hi everybody,
after updating my system 2 days ago, I have the problem that I can't execute any icons (programs) on my desktop except the folder/drive icons.
journalctl says:
Sep 23 07:02:29 workstation dbus-daemon[610]: Activating service name='org.xfce.FileManager'
Sep 23 07:02:29 workstation org.xfce.FileManager[610]: Thunar: Cannot open display:
Sep 23 07:02:29 workstation dbus-daemon[610]: Activated service 'org.xfce.FileManager' failed: Process org.xfce.FileManager exited with status 1
I have no idea where to start.. "Cannot open display"-searches mostly points to open gui-apps as root, what is not my case.
I'm using xfce 4.12 with thunar 1.6.10-2 + thunar-archive-plugin 0.3.1-5 and thunar-media-tags-plugin 0.2.1-2.
I hope anybody can help me. Its annoying to start all the programs via shell.
Regards,
easy.

Also ran into problems with the new dbus package, see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=202754.
For me a downgrade to version 1.10.0-2 solved the problem.

Yeah, sourcing the /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/50-systemd-user.sh file at my .xinitrc did the trick.
Thank you.

I just had the same problem. I was not aware of any changes that I made to my system. I had a shell script on my desktop that I used to be able to run by double-clicking.
Today, I received the same error when trying to launch script from desktop. A window popped up saying "Launch error" - "org.xfce.filemanager exited with status 1".
The solution that worked for me was posted on this blog: http://entremortales.blogspot.com/2015/ … -pudo.html
Solution: delete the folder /home/USERNAME/.cache and reboot the system. Hope this helps others

Don't necro-bump.
If your problem is not the same open a new thread. Solutions to common problems are best put in the appropriate page in the wiki.
