Few issues with Asus UX501VW

Just remembered - by default tap-to-click is turned off with libinput, but there is no option in Gnome 3.20 settings to turn it on. There is probably some command line to do it, but I did it as follows:
I disabled bbswitch so that the discrete card would be on. I installed xf86-input-libinput, uninstalled all other xf86-input and logged into Gnome on X. Magically the tap-to-click option appeared so I toggled it. When I reverted to pure Wayland, tap-to-click remained active. It still does not work on gdm, but that's not that big and issue.

I'm talking about multi-finger gestures and overall quality of moving the pointer. Libinput seems to be way worse, but maybe it was some sort of configuration issue. Also there are still programs which don't work with wayland (video editors, etc).

That's weird, I am still getting the headphone noise (high pitch whistle), despite having kernel 4.6

I'm still getting the noise too. As described before right after restart it seems to be fine, but it comes back after a while.

Using Wayland instead of X is a solution. I choose this computer for its battery life and, with X, I have to start bumblebeed service AFTER GDM session to disable discrete card (with bbswitch loaded), else, battery life is reduced by 2. But Gnome on Wayland, although very close to X, still have few lack.
For the touchpad, I had some issue with a recent arch update, uninstalling synaptics package for libinput fix this (since, horizontal scroll is very sensitive, but I don't need it).
Do you guys have a working memory card reader ?

Do you guys still have the noise? It appears after suspend for me.

Furthermore, I have a problem with the touchpad not having any gestures. Any ideas how to solve this?

Yes, noise is still here after susend, but I never do that.
With acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2009" kernel options, Nvidia issue is fixed, but brightness media keys don't work.
I'm trying to find a way to get all built in strings, in order to identify which have to be disabled to get media keys working, but it seems impossible.

On my device I have no any problem with sound and my touchpad is working but multitouch isn't. Only 1 finger click to touchpad(

There are two things that do not work work me:

Multi-touch scroll ( Or any scroll for that matter )
High pitch noise when using headphones after suspend

AS you can see, some people have issue with touchpad or headphones after suspend, but I don't have these problems.

Each tim eI reboot the computer I have this message:
watch dog did not stop!
And it remains without rebooting, how could I fix it?

Do you know any solution for the brightness keys and for the multi-gesture touchpad problem? I have found this library but don't tested it: https://github.com/jmesmon/illum

Someone has tried it or has a solution for this troubles?

PS.: I have tried Ubuntu and it has the same problems (brightness control and multi-gesture touchpad don't work)

Hi guys, I got the same laptop and currently I'm having the same problems like most of you:
1. Headphones don't work after suspend
2. Cannot change brightness level using fn buttons, only using the sysfs
3. Wifi driver is really bad, thanks to realtek

Currently I decided to stick to these kernel parameters

acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2009" acpi_backlight=native rw

It happens if I change kernel parameters from

to

because I want to switch off my discrete card via bbswitch, since I noticed that my laptop was way hotter when I used nouveau auto pm.

Have you installed nvidia drivers? I cannot get working the fn buttons with nvidia and nvidia-utils instead of the acpi_osi=

For those interested, there is a recent solution for the multi-touch issue:

A new kernel driver is being developed by Victor Vlasenko and others that is intended to be submitted to the kernel branch once it is fully tested.

Here is the repository: https://github.com/vlasenko/hid-asus-fte-dkms

It is working for me, either with synaptics or libinput Xorg driver, doing the following, in the directory where you want to download the code.

$ git clone https://github.com/vlasenko/hid-asus-fte-dkms
$ cd hid-asus-fte-dkms
$ ./dkms-add.sh

To make the module load permanent, i've added a .conf file in /etc/modules-load.d. Here is mine:

$ cat /etc/modules-load.d/touchpad.conf 
# Load hid_asus_fte 
hid_asus_fte
