Audio and video playback is slow on HDMI only

Running Gnome 3.18, Linux 4.3.3.2

I'm having a weird issue with audio and video playback (Youtube, VLC, Xine, Audacious, etc). When I use the built-in sound card (Speakers - Built-in Audio) playback is normal. If I switch to HDMI (HDMI / DisplayPort 2 - Bult-in Audio) sound and video move a about half speed. It isn't doing this always and a reboot usually fixes it (sometime need to reboot twice!).

How can I diagnose this to find a solution?

It seems to occur after I suspend to ram....

Did you actually find a solution? I experience the same problem in Debian Sid with Gnome 3.18. The fun is my problem relates only to the sound, video is playbacked normal. In system log there are some probably related errors:

snd_hda_intel 0000:00:03.0: spurious response 0x0:0x0, last cmd=0x670500

I didn't find anything in the log . I will have to look when I get home though because I'm using an Intel hybrid and your post makes me think... Also it might just be the sound too, I'll have to look closer (it is agonizing to listen to).

So I used aplay to play a sound - good. Put system to sleep, systemclt suspend. Woke up and tested sound again and it is slow. Here is the journal log - http://pastebin.com/fxkBmiyW

I guess the problem is with the snd_hda_intel driver. Problem remains after the reboot and I have to power off to solve it.
I am going to bugreport to Debian's bug tracker as Debian suggests this instead of upstream. Will post here if find a solution.

Actually I gave up... I am using the other speakers to the headphone jack and started using Chromium...

Same here.. only works after totally shutting down..(a reboot wont fix it)..hope it gets fixed soon..

Hi, i have similar problem with extended hdmi display. when connected, the os seemed to became lag. the move of mouse and windows are not smooth. my video card is NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 750M Mac Edition] (rev a1), with lastest nv driver installed.

does anyone has any ideas about this?

Hi! You probably are the only topic talking about this bug all around the web. I actually use Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel 4.4.0-31-generic on a NUC with i3-5010U CPU. Every time the system wakeup, sound and video are slow, on every type of software. I need to reboot and it's fine. On the same PC, I had Linux Mint 17.3 and not this problem.
