Today I upgraded my system and VirtualBox was not launching anymore. Trying to launch it from the terminal, it errored about not finding "libQt5X11Extras.so.5". Installing qt5-x11extras solved the problem.
Could this be a bug or is there anything wrong with my system?

No, it is not a bug. Read the pacman output

I'm sorry. But I also missed the 'output', neither in '/var/log/pacman.log' nor in the PKGBUILD.
// edit
Ah! You are writing about the usual optdepend output!
Hmm. It is a regular update, so an extra message is not required! In this case it would be maybe a good idea to break the rule and write and log a message about qt5-x11extras?

Why? This is pretty basics stuff. Pacman told you about the new optional dep when you install the new package.
Online
seems AL devs think it's not that simple, http://archlinux.2023198.n4.nabble.com/ … 11809.html
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
(A works at time B) && (time C > time B ) ≠ (A works at time C)

I actually missed that one line, too, and it is at least unexpected if the main binary of the package stops working after an upgrade. It was not a big deal for me because I always check if an optional dependency is missing if some package does not work as expected and the startup error was rather clear what was going on. But I agree with the issue raised in the ML, let's see what will be discussed there as a solution.

It is pretty basic stuff, nothing is wrong with the packaging, but:
The output scrolls.
So you have to scroll up on your own
Which will not work, if the scroll-buffer is not large enough or you switch the TTY during operation
The scroll-buffer is also an issue for screen or graphical-ttys
The log /var/log/pacman.log doesn't contain this information
In practive, you have notice the problem and do a "pacman -Qi virtualbox". I highlighted was is the real issue here, from my point of view.
