Anyone up to putting a PKGBUILD together for the organ synth app, aeolus?
http://users.skynet.be/solaris/linuxaudio/aeolus.html
It has a few dependencies.
Thanks.

Working on it. Right now, I've got the libraries done, moving on to the rest.
It may be done in the morning.

........ or it may not. After posting the above, I started reading the forum again, and then went off to bed. After a bit more work over breakfast, I have PKGBUILDS for everything, but there seems to be a problem running it, and info on this app is pretty sparse. I don't know if the problem is package-related or upstream, but I'm hoping for something useful from the aeolus ML.

Now in the AUR here, after a prompt response from the dev to my aeolus-newb question.
This thing sounds great, btw - if you like that pipe organ sound, that is (I do
).
Thanks Cotton - let me know how you get on with it.

Many thanks tomk for your quick work.
I've installed everything and it works fine as root, although startup using aeolus -J, (in the user directory) gives:
Connected to JACK with 0 inputs and 2 outputs
Stops directory is 'stops'
Waves directory is 'stops/waves'
Can't open waveform file 'stops/waves/III_principal_8.ae1' for reading
Can't open waveform file 'stops/waves/gemshorn8.ae1' for reading
Can't open waveform file 'stops/waves/quintadena2.ae1' for reading
Can't open waveform file 'stops/waves/suabile.ae1' for reading
This doesn't appear to cause any probs and both the virtual keyboard (vkeybd package) and midi files played with kmid work fine.
However, as user, starting in the same way as above, gives the same warnings and then crashes, ending with:
Can't open waveform file '/home/bob/stops/waves/III_flautodolce4.ae1' for reading
Can't open waveform file '/home/bob/stops/waves/quintflute.ae1' for reading
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' what(): St9bad_alloc
Aborted
I've chown'd the stops and stops/wave dir to the user, but it still fails.
Any suggestions?

I've only run it as user, and it's been fine for me. The 'Can't open waveform file' messages were the reason I got on to their mailing-list, and the answer was:
When you start Aeolus for the first time
it will calculate the wavetables. This is indicated by each of the
stop buttons flashing in turn while that stop is being calculated.
When everything is done, click on the SAVE button in the main
window to save the wavetables (this requires you have write
access to the directory). Next time you start Aeolus it will
use the wave files and be ready in a second.
I can only suggest posting your error on the list - I got a good response there. The address is aeolus-user@muse-sequencer.org.

Hi tomk,
Any chance of updating the pkgbuilds for this. I've tried updating the version nos. for clalsadrv & clthreads but they both fail.

Working on it at the moment. I'll have all the new versions up tomorrow.

Cotton - sorry for the delay. I'm having trouble with my JACK setup, so I haven't been able to test. Rather than delay any further, I'll upload them and maybe you can test them?
<edit>
All present and correct now. Let me know how it goes.

Many thanks for these packages.
Aeolus works fine for me as root.
Unfortunately, still haven't figured out the error I get as a user:
"terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
what(): St9bad_alloc"
- the same as I got with the previous version. The developer couldn't help with this one, so I guess there's a permission problem somewhere.
Anyway, thanks for your quick work.
