I did a pacman -Syu today, the kernel was part of this update. After the installation mkinitcpio tried to create a new image, but failed. I am currently at an other computer to please forgive me if i don't give the full log. For both the default and the fallback image, I get:
Build hook udev
Error: Runtime script for `´ not found
Stupidly I rebooted and landed in the recovery shell, but I managed to chroot back into the system. I tried to reinstall the kernel and to run mkinitcpio -p linux manually, both fail with the error message from above. Downgrading to 4.6.3 from the cache gives the same output.

Reinstall mkinitcpio, then try generating it again.
If that doesn't do it, post your mkinitcpio.conf.

Tried reinstalling - without success. mkinitcpio.conf without comments:
MODULES="i915"
BINARIES=""
FILES=""
HOOKS="base udev autodetect modconf block filesystems keyboard fsck"

Reinstalling bash solved it for now, not sure what caused it so I will investigate a bit and leave this thread open until I have an answer.
Edit: Looks like mkinitcpio needs the bash debugger to work correctly, I had a bash without debugging support installed, hence the error.
